A 26-year-old U.S. Navy veteran is facing multiple murder charges following a violent rampage across DeKalb County that was reportedly sparked by a domestic dispute over a thermostat
. Olaolukitan Adon Abel is accused of killing two people and critically wounding a third during the early morning hours of Monday, April 13, 2026
.
The tragedy began late Sunday night in a shared home in Panthersville
. According to roommates, an 'intense argument' broke out regarding the temperature of the house
. One roommate, Angela Britton, described a 'screaming match' because Abel insisted on keeping the residence 'freezing'
. Following the altercation, Abel packed a duffel bag and fled the home shortly after midnight
. Another roommate, Lakisha Mckinzie, expressed such fear following the dispute that she asked her mother to pray for their safety, noting she had already been afraid of Abel due to a prior incident of inappropriate touching in March
.
The ensuing violence spanned several hours and multiple locations across the county
. The timeline of the attacks includes:
12:50 a.m.: Prianna Weathers, 31, was fatally shot outside a fast-food restaurant in the Decatur area
.
2:00 a.m.: A 49-year-old man was shot multiple times while sleeping outside a grocery store in Brookhaven; he was last reported in stable but critical condition
.
7:00 a.m.: Lauren Bullis, a Department of Homeland Security auditor, was found dead with both gunshot and stabbing wounds while walking her dog near Abel’s home
.
Investigators believe at least one of these victims may have been targeted at random
. Abel’s flight ended at 11:00 a.m. when Georgia State Patrol troopers apprehended him in Troup County near the Alabama border
.
Abel, a U.K. native who gained U.S. citizenship in 2022, now faces state charges of malice murder, aggravated assault, and firearms counts
. Additionally, federal prosecutors have charged Abel alongside 35-year-old Damon Marquis Yarns, who is accused of performing a 'straw purchase' to obtain the 9 mm pistol used in the crimes
. Abel was prohibited from owning a firearm as a convicted felon, with a record that includes a 2023 conviction for sexual battery in Chatham County and a 2024 guilty plea for assault with a deadly weapon in San Diego
Roommates indicated they had previously complained to their landlord about Abel’s behavior, but no action had been taken prior to the shooting spree.
